Can We Use 3G Networx If We’re Not a Nonprofit?

3G Networx is exclusively available to registered nonprofit and charitable organizations within Canada.

If your organization is not a registered nonprofit or charity, you cannot use the 3G platform to collect donations or process payments. Accounts linked to personal bank accounts or entities without nonprofit status will be flagged and may be subject to immediate suspension or closure.

Operating Under a Fiscal Sponsor

If you operate under a fiscal sponsor, you may still use 3G Networx—as long as the sponsor is a verified nonprofit and the account is opened under their organization’s information, including connecting their nonprofit bank account.

Private Businesses Raising Funds on Behalf of a Nonprofit

Private businesses that wish to raise funds on behalf of a nonprofit must use the nonprofit’s information for account verification. If this isn’t possible, the business must supply a signed agreement clearly stating:

  • The nonprofit’s consent to have their name used in the campaign,
  • Confirmation of the working relationship, and
  • A statement detailing how and when the funds will be transferred to the nonprofit.

Information Required By Stripe Connect When Setting Up Your 3G Fundraising Campaign

At 3G Networx, we’ve partnered with Stripe —a trusted global payment processor— to ensure secure and reliable financial transactions for all campaigns hosted on our platform. As part of our integration with Stripe Connect, you’ll be asked to verify your identity before you can begin accepting donations.

This is a standard security measure required by Stripe to comply with international financial regulations and to protect everyone using the platform.


What You’ll Be Asked to Provide

When setting up a campaign, the person completing the Stripe account setup (usually a coach, team lead, board member, or organization treasurer) will be asked to submit:

  • A photo of a government-issued ID (front and back)
  • A selfie to match with the ID
  • Social Insurance Number (SIN)

These steps are required by Stripe to verify that your account is legitimate and tied to a real individual authorized to represent the organization receiving the funds.


Why This Information Is Necessary

3G Networx is a technology platform, not a financial institution or fundraising intermediary. We do not handle, hold, or distribute donor funds. All donations go directly from donors to the verified Stripe account of the fundraising organization.

However, because 3G Networx uses Stripe Custom Connect, Stripe requires identity verification to ensure the legitimacy of all account holders. This protects our users, their supporters, and the integrity of the platform.

All identity data—including IDs and photos—is handled and stored securely by Stripe, not 3G Networx. Stripe is certified to the highest industry standards for payment and data security and is trusted by millions of businesses and nonprofits worldwide.
